ACE Camp with Camilla Engman!

Yah! Ace Camp! I don't know where to begin and I've been trawling through a million
photos... I wish I could share them all. In fact, I think I'll be doing more posts (if you can
bear it?) about  i. Camilla's Studio and Exhibitions, ii. Konstepidemins (the artist community
where our studio was) and iii. Shopping in Gothenburg... yes, there are that many photos ;)

So, here's my edit on Camilla's Ace Camp. Firstly, fabulous hotel... We had to share rooms
but that comes with affordable camps I guess and I shared with Belinda so I was happy :)

We walked to the studio each morning which was wonderful - the exercise started the day
off well :)

The studio was in an amazing artist community - Konstepidemins. We were all dreaming
about living here permanently within 5 seconds, and this feeling just deepened over the
week.

Camilla gave us instructions on how to get started and exercises on finding our own
style. She showed us her own process of working (those pics I'll post tomorrow when
I show Camilla's studio)... and then we just threw ourselves into it!

Some things that I painted... I really don't want to show them because the course wasn't
about producing finished works... However, this was rather funny because I just couldn't
stop producing fabric designs! I have a lot of work to do but at least I feel confident about
starting off again :)

We went on so many outings and excursions around Gothenburg, it felt like we were
barely in the studio! This isn't the case, of course ;) It was so wonderful seeing the studios
of other artists (I'll post pics of these visits when I blog about Konstepidemins).

I still can't believe how quickly that week flew by. No sooner had I arrived than we
were having our farewell dinner and exhibition.

Thanks so much to Camilla for her amazing generosity and enthusiasm :)
Thanks also to my wonderful group - they were a fabulous group of lovelies :)

I'd like to end by saying a big thank you to Angela Ritchie for having the vision to
organise these amazing camps. I know for a fact I wouldn't have found myself in
Gothenburg last month doing all these amazing things if it had not been for her idea
of setting up affordable art camps and choosing Camilla to work with :)
Although very camera shy, Angela was there the whole time organising things in the
background, and making it the smooth enjoyable week it was. Thanks Angela :)

Gothenburg Pop-Ups :)

One of things that made the ACE Camp so special was the extra little trips around the
city that Camilla took us on. It added so much to the experience. There were events
that I would never have seen as a regular tourist; it really felt like we had a special
tour of the city with local insights.

One of these outings was to a pop-up exhibition in the Botanic Gardens, where Camilla
was an exhibitor... see if you can pick her artwork :)

Did you pick it? No? Maybe if I share this photo from Camilla's studio you might have a
better clue..? ;)

Such a lovely afternoon walking around the park :)
Tomorrow, I will post about the ACE Camp!!!

Happy Travels - This is Gothenburg :)

I've divided my Gothenburg photos up into four sections - this first selection is my postcard
series of what Gothenburg looks like. First impressions on arrival at the airport - I was
already smitten...

It was so clear skied and sunny! There was a lovely crisp coolness with blue skies and
sunshine nearly every day... Gothenburg's Summer is very much like Brisbane's Winter :)

There were some great bits of street art and a lot of road works and improvements to
infrastructure going on.... It made me wonder about the Swedish economy in comparison
to the rest of the world, and they seemed to be doing really well if the buzz and hum on
the streets is anything to go by ;)

Loved the bicycles lined up everywhere :)

Gothenburg is one of my new favourite places and I'm already plotting how I can
get back there again. Thank you Gothenburg!

Happy travels - Ely :)

So, the next part of my journey was a fabulous adventure by train to country
England. Keri and I went to visit Lu Summers in her new screenprinting and quilting
studio in Ely... and it was truly fabulous.

Rapeseed crops taken while zooming past in the train.

I wish I'd taken some pics of the studio - so much light and space! We did a
bit of printing - I shared my block printing technique for continuous patterning
with them - but mostly, we talked :)

Lu Summers - aka Summersville
Keri - aka Two Little Flowers

I actually only managed to carve out my block in all that time, so maybe I was
talking away the most ;) I have printed it up since I've got home, though, and I rather like it :)

I love how you just see circles in this design

Must practise my technique though as it wasn't always properly lined up ;)

While waiting for my train back to London I snapped this pic at Ely Station - loved
the bicycles all lined up :)

Thank you so much Lu and Keri for such a great day!

p.s. if you're interested in quilting, then you might also be interested in the
fact that Lu has a book coming out soon which you can pre-order here.

Hello there! Travels to London :)

Well, my grand adventure has come to an end and I'm back to home ground. What an
amazing experience! I think I'm going to drown you in pictures, sorry.

First stop, London... loads of galleries - the David Bowie exhibition at the V&A was
magnificent! and I really loved Man Ray at the National Portrait Gallery and Lichtenstein
at Tate Modern...

Fav Lich Pic :)

.... and loads of fun shopping - Liberty's (of course!) and Portobello Market, old favourites like
VV Rouleaux and new finds (thanks for the tour and your wonderful company Alessandra!)
like the amazing Cloth House and Monmouth Coffee Co.

My favourite London pic this time, though, is the 'Wolverine' building on Oxford Street :)
I must admit, thanks to the 'joys' of long distance travel and getting to watch a million
movies on these long flights, I am now an avid fan of the X-Men movies :)

More happy travels tomorrow to Ely :)
