It looks like Sunday is becoming screenprinting day for me.
This is a new design plucked from my Atomic Flower motif... I wanted to create
a pattern that would work specifically for dressmaking and cutting shapes on the bias.
I think it works in either direction, but possibly is more suited to being cut on the bias
in this way so that the design 'falls' the right way too.
The fabric is a beautiful basecloth linen from Yardage Design... so soft with a
lovely drape and very easy to print :)
The fabric paint colour is one that I mixed up myself. I have an acrylic colour that
I love called 'Imperial Navy' so I've tried to recreate it here. I think it's pretty close.
Sorry for all the obtrusive branding and labelling... I thought it might be a good idea
to start doing this. Need to work on some consistent sizing though! ;)
How about you? Do you 'brand' your images? Do you think it's a good idea or not?
Hope you've had a great weekend :)
Love the screen printing and the colour. Very clever indeed! The swatches alone look like a little work of art. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a fan of branding images because I find it distracting, but that's just me. But if you are having problems with people using your images with no permission, or not linking to you, or stealing your designs then I guess you would need to. Could you perhaps make the text a little more opaque so it isn't quite as obvious?
Great design and it does look great on the bias too! I don't "brand" my images, though I have been thinking about it... it's probably a good idea as you never know where your images will end up... like pinterest! :)
ReplyDeletei love it Kylie, both ways ! and mixing paints is fun isn't it, well at least I always feel like the "real" deal when I do.
ReplyDeleteBloody dag that I am xo
Dear Kylie,
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived nearby, so that I could take a lesson in fabric printing with you. I love what you do.
As for watermarking your images, I think it is essential. I see my images everywhere and regret not doing this more consistently sooner.
Best wishes!
Ingrid
Beautiful print Kylie.
ReplyDeleteI don't but probably should watermark my images. So many things in life we should do but so very little time. I'm sure this will come back to bite me in the all too ample behind at some point.
I love this design! I also adore the navy color you created.
ReplyDeleteI don't watermark my images but I know I probably should. Perhaps I'll play around with that tomorrow :).
Love your design, Kylie.
ReplyDeleteGood thing to watermark your images. Short time ago I had watermarked all the photos on my blog. I hate to do it but it is really necessary, unfortunately.
Great new design, love it! I could see a very cool Summer dress made out of that.
ReplyDeleteAs for the branding, I generally watermark images that are associated with my work, but not other things. Sometimes it's important to me that my ownership be clear--even on non-work images--so I mark those. Others seem too generic to bother. :)
Great pluck and great performed print (as always). That last photo of the color looks yummie too :)!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this Kylie...the colour, design, placement...EVERYTHING!!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about branding my images too. Personally I prefer to see a clear photo, but am increasingly aware of the need to have my name on them. It's sad that it has come to that but it is also important to have ownership.
love your pattern and the mixed colour. so nice. your printing is very neat.
ReplyDeletei havent marked any of my images, not sure if i will unless uploading hi res images perhaps.
i like christinas tip on the opaque text option too.
I looove this pattern Kylie! Lovely seeing you get stuck into the printing.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering about the watermarking thing too - I hate the way it looks but maybe it's essential. Doesn't stop people copying work though, I've already seen a copy of my fox brooch for sale in an Etsy shop.
