Oh my... this is slow work, people! Has it really been 2 years since I last posted? Why are you even still around to read this? :)) The day job has been very demanding, but some progress has been made, on this and other distraction projects.
My day job has been taking most of my time lately so it's been "slowly slowly" with the progress on my new piece... grabbing a minute here and a minute there when I can. I wanted to achieve more of a tapestry look this time... heavier but still with bare peeks of canvas showing through to throw the design into relief :)
As always, when I'm getting close to the finishing post, I hesitate more and more over each stitch, not wanting to go too far... and spend an inordinate amount of time looking at the back of the work ;) Hope you're having a good week :)
I've been a bit quiet here... but I have been working on some ideas, like printing notepads and tiny pouches. This one is a birthday gift for a lovely friend but there are more on the way.
There are also some new designs in the copper on denim collection and I've been accommodating to the smaller sizing with a mini version of my Oasis block. Still working on these but hopefully they'll be in the shop soon. What have you been up to?
A quick update on the copper/denim block printed pouches... I've finished adding the next layer of some copper thread. I'll be making them up into pouches soon but I'm still on the look-out for some zippers with copper/bronze teeth to complete the look. Hope you've had a productive week :)
Yes, that is the question ;) This is my current work in progress. I should be well on the way to finishing it but I've stopped in my tracks, caught by the light that comes through the stitching holes. I rather like it and now I'm wondering if I should just leave it the way it is... Loving the back of the work too... look at how the paper has been pushed into tiny mountains on the surface. Okay, maybe I'm getting a bit too fanciful here ;) I think I will be stitching this one... if only to see how it compares to the other, but there's definitely some more perforated pieces coming in the future! All the same, opinions are welcome. Hope you're having a good week :)
I've been printing up some more fabric for pouches... this time using denim block printed with my original Oasis design in metallic copper. Loving the lustre :)
Looking forward to the weekend too. Hope you've had a happy week?
I've been working on this piece for a long time now... too long I think... and I've come to a grinding halt. It's got to the stage where I actually prefer the back of the piece! (Well, to be fair, I do always like the back of stitchery... but should I actually prefer it?) Anyway, enough moaning. Just saying that this piece has been shelved for a while... maybe a long while ;) If you have any ideas, comments are very welcome :)
I've been a busy bee! I've been doing quite a bit of block printing and hope to have some new pouches in the shop very soon. They aren't new designs as such, more like re-invented, re-worked old favourites. So, here they are then... Atomic Twist Flame Forrest (Green) and Flame Forrest (Blue) Now comes the sewing part! Hope you've had a productive start to the year too :)
Hello! Yes, it's been ages. The silly season has taken over here. There are many new projects on the go, but as yet none have been finished. Just so you know I am still on the job I thought I'd post a new work – still very much a work in progress – called Urban Planning. This is a very personal project for me. I started with some painting and over-printing, playing with making marks. Then I over-printed a map of where we used to live in London and began sewing a random hexagon grid pattern as the next layer. From there the layers of fabric, silk and lace have been steadily building up. I'm trying not to plan this part too slavishly... I want it to be the chaotic growth of a city that happens no matter how assiduously one plans its grid ;) Anyway, still a work in progress. Here's to one day actually finishing! ;)
